My son is G6PD

My son is a G6PD child.
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD deficiency) also known as favism (after the fava bean) is an X-linked recessive genetic condition that predisposes to hemolysis (spontaneous destruction of red blood cells) and resultant jaundice in response to a number of triggers, such as certain foods, illness, or medication. It is particularly common in people of Mediterranean and African origin. The condition is characterized by abnormally low levels of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, an enzyme involved in the pentose phosphate pathway that is especially important in the red blood cell. G6PD deficiency is the most common human enzyme defect.[1] There is no specific treatment, other than avoiding known triggers. (Source: Wiki)

A month after he was born, I found out that he is a G6PD. I was crying like crazy and became depressed at first. But I found out several of my friends and a relative, have kids who are the same. But eight years later, here he is. His childhood (he is still a child, though) was normal. And he grow up into a very fun, intelligent, introspective boy and what's more, he has faith in God, even this early.

It is basically management, where we don't let him eat, drink, or take substances (food, drink, meds) which are bawal. He has shown no symptoms described like being jaundice, or having tea colored waste nor he has fainted. he has not been sick, the cause of which can be traced directly to G6PD.

There is really nothing to worry about, Just avoid all those which are bawal. And he understand.

Above, are some of the food, drink or substance which are bawal. Also, there is a list above.

That's him, having his taekwondo lessons.
