How Kumon helped my boy.

My son has been with Kumon since almost 5 years ago, when he was only 3 years old. He enrolled in Kumon when he was about to start with Kinder 1. I was advised that he should take Reading first because of his age and one year ago, he started with Math.

Kumon's approach is long term. The big improvement will manifest about 2 to 3 years. By then, his study habits has been established even at a young age and his reading comprehension, analytical skills has become keen.

Kumon won't let the kid advance to the next level unless and until he has mastered the previous one. They have tests to determine that. And they also have an Honor Roll which takes into account all those in the same level throughout the country. But that is not the focus, there is no recognition program for that. They will just give a Certificate, I think twice a year. My son has already amassed quite a handful in Math and Reading combined.

As to my child's performance in school, I would say that it has greatly keep him ahead. His grades are highest in Reading and Language and he is starting to catch up in Math. For instance, next week, he will start with basic Multiplication in school but he is already doing that in Kumon, multiplying 2 digits and he can already do that in his mind.

With reading, I think he is quite ahead because in Kumon, he is already doing reading comprehension since last year.

It has also sharpened his memory well.
